Ersatz is a printmaking and bookbinding workshop in Nottingham city centre. Established in 2013 as The Holodeck in Birmingham, and transplanted over to Nottingham in early 2026 (with a new name!). 

The studio is currently resident in the basement of The People's Hall on Heathcoat street in Nottingham city centre. A wide range of design, print, book production, and related activities take place from the workshop and our practice is always evolving. 

Main workshop activities include graphic design, riso print, digital print, bookbinding and book production (stapled booklets, perfect binding, sewn book blocks, softbacks, hardbacks), and we also use traditional processes within our practice such as letterpress, relief printing, foiling/embossing, and paper marbling.

We love working with arts organisations/galleries/indie publishers and designers, and we've been fortunate to work on some nice projects over the years with a wide range of clients.  We are not your typical high street printshop, and sadly don't have the resources to work on every project we would like to, so please get in touch to enquire about current and future availability.
